About Dr Clare Holley

Dr Clare Holley is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Loughborough University, where she has built a career researching how people can be supported to build healthier habits, particularly around food. She specialises in developing public health interventions through direct collaboration with the people and organisations they're designed for, working closely with not for profit and charitable groups to evaluate outcomes and maximise real world impact. Clare also brings a personal dimension to her work: after a traumatic caesarean section with her second child, she draws on her own experience as a scar therapy service user, giving her a grounded, first hand understanding of the field alongside her academic expertise.

Clare's academic path began at the University of Sussex, where she studied Psychology and graduated in 2009, before returning to complete a master's in Health Psychology in 2012. She then moved to Loughborough University to undertake her PhD, investigating ways to increase vegetable consumption in early childhood, a topic that would go on to shape much of her research career. She taught at Loughborough for several years before being appointed lecturer in 2016.

Today, Clare teaches across a range of modules, including the part A courses Introductory Neuroscience and Foundations in Biological Psychology, the part C module Psychology and Health, and the foundation studies module Foundations in Psychology. She also supervises dissertation projects and acts as a personal tutor, supporting students throughout their studies.
